At the present time, the Back Pack Health Worker Team (BPHWT) has no need for medical/health care volunteers as our organization is fortunate to have sufficient resources available to it from local community-based organizations and international NGOs. Also our health care programs operate inside Burma by trained community health workers who are from the communities that they served.

The BPHWT has periodic short-term opportunities at its Mae Sot office for qualified non-medical volunteers. The current non-medical volunteer opportunities re for trainers to enhance/build our staff capacities in:

  • Business Communications: Effective presentations – verbal, visual, & written; public speaking; and debating.
  • English Literacy: Pronunciation and conversation.
  • Video Editing

Selected volunteers are expected to spend at least three months with the BPHWT. The BPHWT does not provide any stipends, accommodations, transportation, medical insurance, visa support, or meals, except possible lunch, to a volunteer. All expenses are the responsibility of the volunteer.

Volunteers are not permitted to accompany our Back Pack teams inside Burma because of security concerns, difficult terrain and conditions, and lack of a need for assistance from volunteers in the field areas.

The work location for all volunteer opportunities will be at the BPHWT Office in Mae Sot, Thailand.  The work week for the BPHWT staff, including any volunteers, is 0900-1600 from Monday – Saturday with days off for establish organization holidays. Volunteers are expected to adhere to all BPHWT policies include proper dress.

Volunteer trainers are expected to have the appropriate subject background and credentials as well as the ability to teach in both group and one-on-one settings.

Interested volunteers should send a resume/CV and a cover letter email outlining specifically how their knowledge, experience, and skill sets will help to build the BPHWT staff capacity in one or more of the indicated areas of need. Cover letter emails should mention the length of time commitment of the volunteer, which should be sufficient to successfully complete the assignment. It is expected that, prior to sending the resume/CV and cover email, interested volunteers will have familiarized themselves with our organization through the host of information and reports available on this website. For active consideration, resumes/CVs and cover letter emails should be tailored to our organization and not be of a generic nature.
